It was presented during Warenhuis Festival, may ‘26. Enclosed by double layers of transparent fabric onto which images are projected, visitors drink tea and are guided, through ritual, poetry and interaction, from the personal to the ecological. PRESENCE explores the invisible entanglement of all living beings, using tea as a bridge to the plant world. Projected visuals are both digital and analogue; audio and digital images are controlled by hand gesture. Performed during Rewire Festival 2025. This performance is now being reworked into a long-duration piece. &nbsp; Sound is a Sphere is an acoustic sound installation/performance based on the workings of a record player. Performers create its sound by dragging acoustic resonators along the floor. These resonators scan the floor in search of irregularities. The sounds are shaped by the geometry of the space and the materials, as well as the position of the performers. As the performance unfolds, elements are gradually introduced that transform the sound: gravel, sand, wood chips. Materials are added, reshaped, and removed, whilst the circular movements continue. The circular movements, together with the extended duration, tell the story of the cycle of life and death, where that which is, also perishes and something else emerges. The composition unfolds through ‘deep listening’; the resonators are played as an extension of the body. I worked closely together with Robin on the philosophy, the appearance and the timeline of the performance. As a performer, but especially as a creator of generative and interactive images. There is no purpose. There are only amplified errors and time. In the absence of a blueprint, some beautiful, complex organisms ended up with some serious construction flaws. Humans are just as much in the making as any creature around or before us. We will either die out or evolve into something else. This is nothing new. But here’s the thing that is new; for the very first time, the element of choice is introduced. With the development of genetics and artificial intelligence, evolution will not be random but intentional.&nbsp;We find ourselves in a unique moment in time; for the first time we managed to get hold of tools to alter the evolutionary process. This means we have a responsibility to future life, while becoming obsolete ourselves. ‘Are We There Yet?’ is a physical installation in a real world space. It has visuals, sound, a certain pace and specific dimensions. It doesn’t have length, a beginning or an end. You are welcome to stay as long as you like. You can come back later if you wish. You are encouraged to walk around or sit down. What you see in this installation is not a movie but a live render. Images are being drawn on the screen over and over again. Some of these graphics are based on natural mechanics, like the growth pattern of plants. In every scene there is room for a small amount of randomness. Movement, color, size and shape are altered by external factors. A kind of consciousness that will evolve without the sensitory feedback we are used to recieve. What is intelligence without body? Without the permanent haptic affirmation where we end?Our consciousness is largely expressed in language, and language is a code which is constantely defined by us. Maybe a post-human intelligence will no more have need for language, having other means of communication. Something more direct, more holistic, more whole. What is to be defined then? I took a radical approach, using the ancient technique of shamanism to connect with the deadest of dead materials; plastics.Polythene sculpture (100 x 130 cm)Realtime generated visuals (TouchDesigner) Plastics connect us to both the ancient past and the far future, yet we only use it for an extremely short instance. Once it was plankton, it will be something else one day.Pure polythene contains only carbon and hydrogen atoms, chained together in giant polymers.
